The Dorchester County Historical Society and the Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance  have joined efforts to coordinate "1812 Dorchester Maryland," a year-long series of events  that reflect the life and times of 1812.

We have reached out to many county organizations in an attempt to partner with as many  groups as possible to create a Calendar of Events  that would be varied and interesting to Dorchester County residents and visitors.

Dorchester County Maryland is the heart of Maryland's Eastern Shore. Historic to its core  with beautiful rural landscapes in all directions, the county retains a sense of slower paced  life much as it was in the early nineteenth century--a life that today attracts visitors from  more urban settings, who come here for a chance to unwind, recharge and remember and  learn about our mutual heritage.

So if you've only been as far as Easton or St. Michaels, perhaps it is time you crossed the   Choptank River and enjoy what Dorchester has to offer.  And this year, as the State of   Maryland commemorates the War of 1812, here in Dorchester we are sitting back and  remembering the life and times of that period and invite you to join us as we rediscover  our history with these exciting events.
